<p>Ore is reduced by a redn. gas heated in a reformer and fed through a shaft furnace contg. the ore. At least part of the throat gas leaving the shaft furnace is recycled to the reformer with a hydrocarbon, e.g. natural gas, to make more redn. gas. If an interruption to the redn. process occurs, flue gas obtd. from the reformer heater, and the natural gas are fed into the reformer to produce cracked gas which is burnt off. Pref. plant includes a by-pass pipe and valves producing the desired gas flow when an interruption occurs. Prevents overheating of the reformer tubes if the flow of throat gas to the latter is interrupted.</p> |
