A sack woven from polyolefine tapes has on its outer surface a coating comprising a hydrocarbon wax or ester wax having a molecular weight not above 2000. The wax may be mixed with smaller proportions of (a) a waxy polymer or copolymer of an olefine, having a molecular weight of up to 30,000, and (b) an atactic polypropylene resin having a molecular weight between 500 and 1,000,000., or a natural resin compatible with the wax. The coating may comprise a mixture of paraffin wax having a molecular weight not above 2000 (50 parts by wt., melting point 60‹/62‹C), polyethylene wax having a molecular weight of up to 30,000 (30 parts by wt. molecular weight 2000), and an atactic polypropylene resin having a molecular weight between 500 and 1,000,000 (20 parts by wt., molecular weight 5000). Suitable waxes are paraffin wax, microcrystalline wax, montan wax, hydrogenated castor oil, carnauba wax, bees wax and Japan wax. The waxes may be applied as a melt or in the form of dispersions which may be sprayed onto the fabric. The waxy polymer or copolymer of an olefine may be polyethylene or a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. The natural resin may be colophony and its esters, hydrocarbon resins, coumarone resins or polyterpene resins.</p> |
