PROCESS FOR PREPARING ALCOHOLS

Alcohols were prepd. by hydrating C2-12 aliphatic olefin with a soln. of 0.001-10 wt. % anhydrous chromic acid and 0.1-20 wt. % phosphoric acid at 100-350≦̸C, 10-350 kg/cm2. Thus, 250ml soln. of 0.1 wt. % anhydrous chromic acid in 3.0 wt. % phosphoric acid and gaseous propylene were reacted at 250≦̸C, 200kg/cm2 for 126 hr in autoclave to give isopropyl alcohol.
