The demountable telescopic box fits onto the nose (H) of the drill and over the bit (B), to collect the swarf (P) produced by a drilling operation. The box comprises two round section sleeves (1, 2) which fit partially one inside the other and which can slide relative to one another. The sleeve of lesser dia. has an open free end which clips (6) onto the drill nose (M) and over the chuck (C). The free end of the counter sleeve is capped (18) providing an axial circular window (19) traversed by the bit, and inc. an annular gasket rib (21) which seals onto the work surface eg. a masonry wall (W). Counter flanges (3, 4) and a barrel rib (9) limit the relative sliding of the sleeves. A flanged cup diaphragm (11) with a bit window (15) is mounted in the inner sleeve to define the back of the collecting vol. When in use the box seals onto the wall and contracts as the bit penetrates.
