Water cooled cylinder head for IC engine - has blind holes for heat conducting tubes base of water circulating chamber

The piston type I.C. engine incorporates heat pipes or conductor tubes in highly stressed parts of the cylinder head (1) to conduct away heat. It has a cooling water chamber (6) around the portions which support the valves (2). This chamber is separated by partitions from the gas circulating channels. In the bottom plate (5) forming the base of this chamber there are blind holes (12), into which the heat pipes (13) are inserted. Most of the holes are located in the region around the hole (10) through which passes the sleeve (8) for the fuel injector. A few more holes are located near the partitions enclosing the valves, but inside the chamber.
