A road vehicle has a built in digital clock that is coupled to a parking display unit that shows the start time and the final time permitted under the parking regulations for the area. The unit is based around a processor (11) operated from a programme held in a memory (17). Input keys (5, 6) allow the specific parking periods in operation to be entered. The processor makes use of the initial time indicated by a continuously running digital clock by operating a control input (7). The processor adds on the permitted time and this is then displayed (13). When the ignition is switched on the display is reset.
