An apparatus for sorting items 7 e.g. frozen and shelled shrimps by size has a sloping plate 1 or similar support for the items. The items which are introduced from above move downwards on the support against a final edge 2 and continue out over the edge. At a distance in front of the edge, a stationary stop 3 is placed in such a way that items 8 above a certain size hit the stop and are deflected, while smaller items 9 pass freely under the stop. Hereby, the items introduced are divided into two groups of size which fall down on each their side of a subjacent separating means 5, such that they may be collected or transported away from the apparatus separately. <IMAGE>
