<p>Coatings (I) for protecting metal-surfaces during heat-treatment comprise a ceramic frit, water, a suspending-agent (II) and a fireproof silicate (III). (I) are suitable for the surface protection of Ni, Co and their alloys, esp. stainless steel. At higher temps., eg. 800 deg.C. (I) starts to melt, forming a glaze which spreads over the surface and dissolves the oxide, preventing further oxidn. On cooling, the glazing scales off and an oxide-free metal surface results. For protecting metal surfaces from oxidn. after casting, avoiding the necessity of using a deoxidising agent treatment stage between the H.T. and following process.</p> |
