A closure assembly comprises a pair of members 10, 16 adapted for relative movement between a closed position and an opened position, a striker 48 mounted on one of said members 16, a bolt 58 carried by the other of said members and adapted to engage said striker to prevent relative movement between said members when they are in the closed position, a cam means 66 mounting said bolt on the other of said members and including abutment means 102, 106 co-operating with said bolt and allowing limited lost motion therebetween, a handle mounted on the other of said members and an over-centre linkage connecting said handle to said cam means for maintaining the bolt and striker in engagement against vibration induced forces acting on said bolt. In the construction shown there are two bolts and two cam means and they are shown mounted on the door of a helicopter; there are also two strikers and these are shown mounted on a door frame 22 of the member 16 which is the body of a helicopter. Each cam means is pivotally mounted on the door by means of a bracket 72 and each bolt has a generally circular opening in which its cam means is received. Each cam means 66 is provided with a cut-out 68 the edge portions of which constitute the abutment means 102, 106 and each bolt has a tongue 70 which enters the cut-out in the corresponding cam means to control swinging movement of the bolt. There are two of said handles 82, 84 one on each side of the door and these are rigidly connected to a shaft 80 which also carries a lever 90, opposite end portions of which are connected to a respective said cam means by rods 92, 94 and connector devices 96, 98 the lever, rods and connector devices constituting the overcentre linkage. The bolts are biased in striker engaging direction by springs 108 and each striker is resiliently mounted by means of a member having a pair of arms 50, 52 and which is carried by an anchor element 54 attached to a plate 40 by which the striker assembly is secured to the frame portion 22. Each bolt passes through openings in the frame portion 22 and in the plate 40 before it can engage its striker. When either handle is moved in a releasing direction each of the cam means is rotated into engagement with the tongue 70 of its bolt and this first moves the bolt further out of the door longitudinally of the bolt and then swings the end portion of the bolt away from the striker until it clears the striker after which the door can be slid open. When the door is closed reverse movement of either handle reverses the movement of the bolt so that during the final movement of the bolt towards the door, seals on the door and frame 22 are compressed. If the door is closed with the bolts in the fastening position they engage the strikers and move them inwardly against the bias of their resilient mounting members. |
