The device is for the measurement of relative displacement of two objects, e.g. parts of a machine tool, moving relative to each other, is designed for safe, simple operation and convenient read-out. A cylinder (12) rotates on an axle (14) fixed to one part and has slip-free contact with a surface (51) on the other part. A rotating disc (34) driven from the cylinder has several peripheral equidistant light transmitting holes. A photoelectric sensor has two units (40, 42) each having a light source and detector either side of the disk (34). The detectors produce pulse trains of defined frequency and fixed phase difference when the disk rotates. An output stage processes the pulse series to determine the distance and direction of relative motion. |
