Work station for sequential machining of workpieces - has reference faces for work carrier and tool, finished before assembly to main frame

The method is for mfg. the main frame of an installation for sequential machining of workpieces at a number of stations each having a table (176) for securing a machine tool and a face (177) for mounting clamps to locate a workpiece carrier. The frame is built up of plates (29), one for each work station, each plate having sufficient rigidity for its ultimate use. Each plate is individually finished with a first reference face (176) intended for securing (181) the tool and at least one second reference face (177) for the clamps accurately finished and aligned relative to the first. The plates are then installed, one behind the other, to form the main frame.
