[Also in Division C3] A method for the production of shaped wooden articles 59 comprises cutting veneers or sheets of wood into sticks 57 at a cutting station, continuously feeding the cut sticks along a conveyer 15, transferring the sticks to a second conveyer 16 moving at right angles to the first conveyer and given a reciprocating movement longitudinally of the first conveyer under the first conveyer at the feed end, the sticks being positioned longitudinally of the second conveyer, continuously feeding the sticks from the conveyer 16 to a bath of glue 18, continuously passing a plurality of the sticks, forming a bundle, from the bath through a funnel 21 to a shaper 27, compressing the bundle in the shaper to the desired shape and curing the glue while the bundle of sticks is passing through the shaper. In one machine described for performing the method the sticks are cut by a knife 11 and are fed by the conveyers 15, 16 so as to be staggered on the latter. The sticks are then fed via rollers through the glue bath 18 into the funnel 21 and to the shaper 27 which comprises a pair of horizontally disposed chains 28 carrying elements 40, Fig. 7, between which the glue-coated sticks are compressed and shaped. The elements 40 are held in position by plates 45 which include heating wires 46 for curing the glue. The elements 40 are adjustably spaced and may be of shapes other than that shown to produce articles of different sections, e.g. convex or concave corner mouldings. In a second embodiment the shaper is a two-part tube with a flared end through which the glue coated sticks are pulled. |
