<p>Fast moving hot rolled metal strip is between the last roll stand and the coiling station exposed to transversely applied bands of cooling water delivered from transversely fitted coolant supply boxes with slots, the length of which is a multiple of their width. The bands of flowing water have low turbulence and have limited thickness and the speed of flow of the water coolant as well as the direction of approach are adjustable within wide limits. The coolant supply boxes are applied in multiples on the unit principle and permit wide variation in application of the coolant whilst at the same time being extremely effective in achieving max. heat transfer. They are for use in strip mills.</p> |
