1,247,896. Binding organic amines to polymers. PHARMACIA A.B. 19 Dec., 1968 [20 Dec., 1967], No. 60502/68. Headings C3A, C3H and C3U. [Also in Division C2] In a method of binding, by covalent bonds, organic compounds containing one or more primary or secondary amino groups, to polymers containing one or more hydroxyl groups and/or primary or secondary amino groups, the polymer is reacted with a compound containing one or more cyanate groups to form a reactive derivative and this derivative is reacted with the organic compound. Organic compounds that may be used are proteins, polypeptides, peptides, and amino acids and derivatives thereof such as enzymes, antibodies, protein and/or peptide hormones, antigenic proteins, allergens or haptens. Polysaccharides containing an amino group may also be used. Polymers that may be used are dextran, cellulose, starch, dextrin and agar agar, copolymers of dextran with epichlorohydrin or derivatives of these compounds such as hydroxyethyl cellulose, and 2 - hydroxy - 3 - (4 - aminophenoxy)propylsubstituted copolymers of dextran with epichlorohydrin. The polymer may also be polyaminostyrene. |
