A photographic colour coupler for magenta has the formula: - where R 1 is hydrogen, esterified carboxy or a group which splits off during colour development and R 2 is a group of the formula = CH-R 3 where R 3 is alkyl, aralkyl or aryl and in which coupler positions 3 and 6 may be substituted. The colour coupler may be incorporated in the emulsion or an adjacent layer of a silver halide colour material or may be used in a silver halide colour developer, or it may be incorporated into a dye transfer material for use in a process wherein a diffusible dye formed on colour development is transferred imagewise to a receiving sheet. |
