1,223,769. Indicating liquid levels. M. PANERAI and G. PANERAI. Nov.28, 1968 [Nov.30, 1967; March 27, 1968; May 2, 1968; May 15, 1968; Oct. 9, 1968], No. 56536/68. Heading G1H. In a device for externally displaying the level of a material contained in a tank 1, such as an inflammable liquid 2, a liquid-tight hollow cylindrical element 3, secured at the lower end to the bottom of the tank 1 and at the top end by a cap 5 sealed by a cover 8, has a plurality of light transmitting prism elements 9 projecting at spaced vertical intervals from the side flange into the tank and the arrangement is such that light, from a source 10, located in the tank wall, is transmitted by the elements 9 not covered by the liquid 2 on the associated photo-cells 15 to energize a corresponding number of electro-luminescent panels 22 on a panel 23 through conductors 16. In alternative arrangements the conductors 16 within the tube 3 are replaced by transparent rods provided at their lower ends with prismatic reflecting surfaces, Fig. 3 (not shown), or by light pipes, Fig. 5 (not shown) and a luxmeter. |
