The invention discloses novel rutin poly(H-)sulfates of the formula: wherein each R is selected from hydrogen and -SO3A, wherein A is a pharmaceutically acceptable salt cation, for example trimethylamine or sodium; with the proviso that at least six of the R groups are -SO3A. The novel compounds are useful in inhibiting the complement system in a body fluid.
