Storage system 1 with vertically stackable load-bearing elements 3 for carrying the stored goods. The load- bearing elements 3 are stacked in multiple stacks 4 side by side with one another. The system furthermore has stack supporting elements 2, which by means of load- bearing devices 12 keep the stacks of load bearing elements at a distance above the floor 5 of the storage system. There is at least one transporting truck 6 for inserting the load-bearing elements in and removing them from the stacks. Each load-bearing element 3 has fixed downwardly directed support elements 18, which can interact with the correspondingly shaped, upwardly directed load-bearing devices 12, which are fixed to the various stack supporting elements 2. The support elements 18 on the bottom load-bearing element 3 in the stack are designed to be capable of engagement with and disengagement from the load-bearing devices 12 of the stack supporting element 2 in the event of vertical movements of the load-bearing elements 3, which are performed by means of the transporting truck 6. When the support element of the load-bearing element and the load- bearing device of the stack supporting element are disengaged from one another, the stack 4 of load-bearing elements 3 can be shifted sideways in relation to the stack supporting element 2 by means of the transporting truck 6. This means that after shifting sideways, the support elements 18, which have a limited lateral extent, can travel past the load-bearing devices 12 in a vertical direction, for insertion or removal of the bottom load- bearing elements of the various stacks. The storage system is preferably computer-controlled. The advantage to the storage system is that it is stable and reliable in operation, since it has few moving parts and it can function automatically. <IMAGE>
