Supported Rh catalysts for the prodn. of acetic acid, ethanol and acetaldehyde and opt. sec. prods. by the reaction of CO with H2 also contains (as cocatalyst) halide (Cl) ions and Mg salts and/or Mg complex cpds. and/or cpds. of Mg with gp. III-VI oxides. The cocatalysts improve the activity and/or selectivity and hence the economy of the process.
