The rotary-piston compressor or expansion engine has several sets of blade-pistons moving at cyclically varying speeds. LP ports are in the casing periphery; HP ones with rotating-disc control valves coaxial with the shaft at the ends. These discs rotate with the pistons, steadily at twice mean piston speed. Each embodies as many openings, evenly spaced, as sets have pistons. Each opening covers an arc about 2 deg. less than the piston arc. Timing brings plate-opening trailing edges in line with faster-moving piston back faces as these pistons catch up with the slower ones.
