<p>The invention is 4,5-dihydrofuran-2-(3H)ones of formula wherein R is selected from the group consisting of lower-alkyl having one to six carbon atoms, lower cycloalkyl having four to eight carbon atoms or phenyllower-alkyl consisting of benzyl, phenethyl and phenpropyl. The compounds are useful intermediates in the preparation of l-hydrocarbon-3,3-diphenyl-4-hydroxymethyl-2-pyrrolidinones which, in turn, are useful intermediates for the preparation of pharmacologically active 4-(4,4-disubsti-tutedpiperidinylmethyl)-3,3-diphenyl-2-pyrrolidinones.</p> |
