A method of bonding a cation exchange membrane which comprises melt-bonding a part of the cation exchange membrane of a fluorinated copolymer in the form having ion-exchange groups of -COOY wherein Y represents hydrogen atom or a C1-C20 alkyl group, when the cation exchange membrane is used in the form having ion-exchange groups of -(COO)mX wherein X represents an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or -NHR1R2R3 and R1 to R3 respectively represent hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group and m is a valence of X.
