A RAIL TIE AND A RAILWAY RAIL-AND-FASTENING ASSEMBLY EMPLOYING IT A rail tie in the form of an inverted trough has two pressed out lugs integral with the tie which overlie one side of the flanges of respective rails. A rib integral with the tie, and forming a passageway for part of a rail clip which holds the rail down on the tie, locates the edge of the other side of each rail flange, the lugs being between the ribs.
