<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the liquid crystal color display body of high contrast and low driving voltage in which memory characteristic is suppressed by sealing the guest- host type liquid crystal composition which makes use of cholesteric phase between a perpendicular orientation treatment substrate and a horizontial orientation treatment substrate. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal composition in which the liquid crystal showing cholesteric phase of positive dielectric anisotropy is used as a host and bar-form dichromatic dyes are used as a guest is sealed between the one side (upper side in the figure) substrate applied with perpendicular orientation treatment and the other side (lower side) substrate applied with horizontal orientation treatment and is so oriented that the liquid crystal composition assuming perpendicular orientation at near the one side substrate guadually shifts to cholesteric phase and assumes spiral structure and that is assumes horizontal orientation near the other substrate, whereby the liquid display cell is provided. The abovementioned cell produces nematic-cholesteric phase transition when applied with or removed of voltage, thereby performing color displaying.</p> |
