Vehicle headlamp having an air cooling duct around the area of the bulb minimising deterioration due to overheating. The lamp and reflector (1) are basically orthodox, the latter having a profiled shell (4) of metal or plastic etc. welded or glued to the reflector back surface. The shell is dished and approximately circular in plan. The upper and lower edges of the shell are cut away (5, 6) to form an inlet and an exit for the air flow which moves through the annular space defined by the rim junction with the reflector rear surface and the central shoulder around the bulb access hole (2). The shell which may alternatively be sprung and ribbed and attached centrally is shaped so as to maximise air flow by creating a Venturi effect.
