Cast moulding compsn. contg. carbonaceous filler - plus polymeric binder curing agent and organic solvent

A carbonaceous cast-moulding compsn. comprises (a) 15-20 wt. % sulphide coke, (b) 20-30 wt. % thermoanthracite, (c) 5-10 wt. % boron or silicon carbide, (d) 5-25 wt. % copolymer(s) of unsatd., fluorinated, aliphatic hydrocarbon, (e) 10-40 wt. % furfurol-ace tone-phenol-pentadiol resin, (f) 4-6 wt. % curing agent, and (g) 7-20 wt. % organic solvent. (a) to (c) are fillers and (d) and (e) are bineers. (a) has a S content of 1-8 wt. % and a particle size of 0.00001-0.15 mm. (b) has a particle size of 0.0001-0.30 mm and (c) a particle size of 0.01-0.30 mm. (d) has an intrinsic viscosity (I.V.) as a 1% soln. in acetone at 20 degrees C of 0.94 - 4.20. (f) is polyethylenepolyamine, hexamethylenediamine or sulphosalicylic acid. The compsn. is used in metallurgy, chemical or mechanical engineering, etc. e.g. for lining metallic articles. It has high mechanical and impact strength, wear and corrosive resistance and low gas permeability.
