The modular connection block has a number of compartments each of which has two parallel sets of an inline input and output connectors for a respective cable, the connectors being mounted on one wall of the compartment. An H-shaped cross-section module receives in each side channel a protection device such as a lightning arrestor clipped into two spring leaf contacts extending over the outside of the two channel sidewalls. When the module is plugged into a compartment one contact of each arrestor bridges one of the two sets of inline connectors connecting these with the arrestor while the other contact engages a contact leaf of an earthing strip. The spring leaf contacts are bowed such that when the module is plugged in the contacts are stressed to enhance their grip on the arrestor.
