The composition contains as active component novel 1,2-diphenylcyclohex-1-ene-4-carboxylic acid esters corresponding to the formula I <IMAGE> in which U, V, W, X, Y and Z independently of one another denote hydrogen, halogen, C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 alkoxy, C1-C4 alkylthio, NO2 , CF3, COOH, CN, OH, SO3H, NH2 or -NH(C1-C4 alkyl) or -N(C1-C4 alkyl)2, and where U and X can additionally each represent an unsubstituted phenyl radical, R - denotes a C1-C18 alkyl radical, which is unsubstituted or optionally substituted by halogen, nitro, cyano, C1-C8 alkoxy, C2-C8 alkoxyalkoxy; C3-C6 alkenyloxy, C1-C8 alkylthio, C2-C8 alkanoyl, C2-C8 acyloxy, C2-C8 alkoxycarbonyl, carbamoyl; bis(C1-C4 alkyl)amino, tris(C1-C4 alkyl)ammonio, C3-C8 cycloalkyl, C3-C8 cycloalkenyl, optionally also by a phenyl, phenoxy or 5-6-membered heterocyclic radical having 1 to 3 heteroatoms, which is unsubstituted or mono- or polysubstituted, for its part, by halogen, C1-C4-alkyl or C1-C4-alkoxy; - denotes a C3-C18 alkenyl radical which is unsubstituted or mono- to tetrasubstituted by halogen or substituted once by phenyl or methoxycarbonyl; - denotes a C3-C8 alkynyl radical; - denotes a C3-C12 cycloalkyl radical optionally substituted by halogen or C1-C4-alkyl; - represents a C3-C8 cycloalkenyl radical; - denotes a phenyl radical which is unsubstituted or mono- or polysubstituted by halogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, C1-C4-alkylthio, NO2, CF3, COOH, CN, OH, SO3H, NH2 or -NH(C1-C4 alkyl) or -N(C1-C4 alkyl)2; - denotes a 5- to 6-membered heterocyclic ring having 1 to 3 hetero atoms.
