PURPOSE:To crosslink a thermoplastic resin, e.g., polyethylene efficiently by electron radiation, by radiating electron to the resin heated at a temperature range from a crystalline melting point of the resin to its decomposition point. CONSTITUTION:The core 5 wound in the capstan 1 is made to pass at the top of the extruder at a constant speed. The core 5 is covered with a molten polyethylene heated at 200 deg.C in the extruder 2 and is transferred through the insulating cylinder 4. Nitrogen gas 9 is introduced from the gas inlet 8 to the insulating cyclinder 4, the core 5 coated with polyethylene resin goes through the nitrogen gas atmosphere to reach the central part of the electron radiation device 3. Two electron radiation devices 3 are equipped facing each other, the whole polyethylene layer at high temperatures covering the core 5 is radiated by electron and tho curing of the polyethylene proceeds. The insulating cable 6 covered by formed crosslinked polyethylene layer is cooled while passing through the cooling cylinder 7 and is wound downward. |
