A distributor for fluids comprises a tube 12 with apertures 14 lying in the bottom of indentations in the tube and surrounded by a fine mesh 20 spaced from the apertures by a coarse mesh 18 and optionally by a rod 16. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 the indentations are circular, see Fig. 4 (not shown). The tube may be of metal and the meshes of synthetic fabric, and the strands of the coarse mesh may be of oval cross-section, see Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). In the embodiment of Fig. 9 the indentations are formed by convolutions 61, 63, the apertures 54 lie in the bottom of the convolutions, and there are larger apertures 65 normally closed by neoprene O-rings 67 which can act as check valves. Fluid (liquid) may pass through the devices in either direction. Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown) depict ion-exchange apparatus into which the devices described may admit liquid.
