Channel induction furnace for melting metals - has supplementary induction coil which modifies stirring effects produced by main induction coils

Furnace consists of a crucible or bath with >=2 vertical channels and one horizontal collector channel forming a loop of molten metal surrounding a cavity contg. a magnet core wound with >=1 prim. induction coil creating the main magnetic field heating and circulating the molten metal. Underneath the channels is an additional, flat induction coil fed with a.c. of suitable frequency and thus creating a supplementary electromagnetic field employed either to accelerate or retard the circulation created by the main magnetic field in a controlled manner. The flat induction coil may be fed with a.c. in phase or out of phase with the a.c. fed to the prim. induction coil, so an acceleration or braking force can be applied to the flowing metal. Circulation of the melt can be accelerated so overheating is eliminated.
