In closely packed groups of cables even conventionally insulated pliers risk creating short-circuits between the two jaws and their joint bearing surfaces and axis. The two halves of these pliers are separately insulated in moulds so that whole metal surface presented to the exterior is covered. A radial space (11) of twice the insulation thickness is left between the outer radius of the bearing surface and the inner radius of the jaws. This accommodates the thicknesses of insulation on each of the two halves. The halves are joined by a taper-headed bolt and a threaded nut. An insulated cap fits over the heads of both bolt and nut.
