Cellular vinyl and vinylidine halide polymers are made by forming a plastisol containing the polymer and 1-10% by wt. azodicarbonamide, and heating the plastisol to 300-400‹ F. to fuse the polymer and decompose the azodicarbonamide, the mixture containing before heating 0.1-2% by wt. of an activator for the azodicarbonamide which is a mixture of 1-10 parts by wt. of a lead or zinc salt of a C 8-24 organic monocarboxylic acid, phenol or an alkylphenol and 1 part by wt. of a barium, calcium or magnesium salt of a C 8-24 organic monocarboxylic acid, phenol or an alkylphenol. In the examples the compositions used to form the cellular polymers comprised polyvinyl chloride, dioctyl and butyl benzyl phthalates, TiO 2 , azodicarbonamide, and lead or zinc and barium 2.ethylhexoates. |
