The installation is used to open the valves of bags of the cross over base type supplied intermittently by a conveyor installation working in a horizontal direction. The installation includes at least one suction device which draws up the sack bottoms fitted with valves and a device which holds the sacks in position supporting them below the bottoms containing the valves. The suction device attached to a rod system capable of being swivelled can be adjusted to higher end positions to correspond with different valve widths and the conveyor installation fitted with the holding device, being made to swivel round the adjustment path in a rhythm opposite to that of the suction device.
