Chlorine is removed from gases, esp. flue gases by scrubbing with a washing medium contg. an alkaline soln. The gas is contacted with a medium consisting partly of fresh and partly of spent washing medium. The bisulphite of an alkali metal is added to side stream of the spent washing medium to keep the soln. at a pH >8.8. A part of the washing medium is extracted from the scrubbing circuit. This achieves the desired purity of the scrubbed gas and eliminates the effects of the presence of oxidising substances such as hypochlorite.
|
