<p>The motor comprises a single coaxial excitation coil on the stator. The coil is supported on an iron structure which also supports iron discs on either side of the coil. The discs extend radially beyond the coil and are notched to give pairs of adjacent poles. One pole forms the main and the other-fitted with a short circuited winding- the auxiliary pole. The gap between one pole pair and the next is at least equal to the circumferential space occupied by a pole pair. The arrangement of alternating main and auxiliary poles, and the gap between such pole pairs, assists in ensuring run up in the correct direction. The poles on each disc may be arranged in line.</p> |
