A heating unit for a sauna bath comprises an inner sleeve 1, 1a which contains a plurality of stones and is encircled by electric resistance heaters 6, a further sleeve 2 which surrounds and extends below sleeve 1, 1a, and further resistance heaters 7 in the lower part of sleeve 2, part of the air heated by heaters 7 being supplied through opening 10 to the sauna bath and the remainder allowed to pass in contact with the stones. The latter are also heated by radiation from sleeve 1a and are doused with water to raise steam when required. When the air in the sauna bath is sufficiently hot one or more of the heaters 7 is/are switched off to reduce the amount of air circulating through the unit but heaters 6 remain energized to heat the stones. The latter are supported on a grating 12 and sleeve 1, 1a is provided with openings 13, 14. A further sleeve 3 surrounds sleeve 2 so that air circulating between these sleeves prevents the unit from having an excessively high surface temperature. |
