PURPOSE:To equalize the consumption of a spark machining electrode in the direction of its length to that of the electrode in the direction of its thickness, by equalizing the thickness of the shank of the electrode to that of the tip of its land and setting the length of the land at the consumed length of the electrode consumed due to the machining of a tapered groove or hole. CONSTITUTION:The holding end part 11 of an electrode 1 is shaped as a prism and secured on the head 12 of a spark machining unit by bolts or the like. The shank 13 of the electrode continuous to the holding end part 11 is shaped as a quadrangular plate and has a thickness t1 almost equal to the width W1 of the bottom 5 of a tapered groove 4. The land 14 of the electrode 1 continuous to the shank 13 is so shaped that the thickness t2 of the land on the end 15 of the shank 13 is almost equal to the width W2 of the top of the tapered groove 4, the thikness t3 of the tip of the land 14 is almost equal to the width W1, namely, to the thickness t1, and the length of the land 14 is set at the consumed length LXalpha (alpha denotes a consumption coefficient) of the electrode 1, which is consumed in machining the tapered groove 4 with a depth of L. |
