<p>Large areas of desert may be fertilised by proceeding through successive stages: on the basis of colouring in a draft board pattern of approximately 10 km<2>. Areas adjacent to the seashore should be coloured first such that the regions rendered fertile by the falling of rain can serve as a springboard for conveying evaporation from the sea. Seeds may be mixed with the colouring materials dispersed, it being understood that the said colouring materials are chosen so as to be non-toxic for crops. Colouring may be effected by helicopter or any other means, either with the aid of colouring materials, or by expanses of prefabricated green surfaces which, as rains fall, give way to natural vegetation. This colouring may be reinforced by the use of green lights. <IMAGE></p> |
