PURPOSE:To permit the effective catalytic achievement of catalyst even when the concentration of unburned components present in exhaust gas or the amount of exhaust gas is changed by manufacturing a catalyst for cleaning combustion exhaust gas by supporting a noble metal or a metal oxide on a porous mat support of an inorganic fiber. CONSTITUTION:A great number of through holes are bored in an inorganic fiber mat of glass fiber, etc., in a proportion 20-80%, and then the porous mat support is dipped in an aqueous solution containing a noble metal or oxide, e.g., chloroplatinic acid, etc., to support the noble metal or oxide on the surface of the support. The combustion exhaust gas cleaning catalyst can thus be manufactured at low cost and is effectively applicable to the cleaning of exhaust gas from any combustion state, e.g., ignition, steady combustion, fire extinguishing, etc. |
