PURPOSE:To make it possible to improve the water resistance, chemical resistance, nonstickiness, color forming property, etc., of the title overcoating agent by using an emulsion obtained by grafting at least three specified (meth)acrylic monomers onto PVA in the presence of a sugar fatty acid ester and water as an effective component. CONSTITUTION:A graft copolymer emulsion is obtained by grafting 100 pts.wt. total of monomer (A) comprising 5-40wt.% (meth)acrylamide (a), 40-90wt.% methyl (meth)acrylate (b), 1-20wt.% (meth)acrylic acid (c) and 0-30wt.% other monomers (c) copolymerizable with components (a) onto 5-50 pts.wt. PVA (B) at 60-90 deg.C in the presence of 1-30 pts.wt. sugar (6-22 C) fatty acid ester of an HLB of 1-16 and water (C) and, optionally, a radical polymerization initiator. A 100 pts.wt. (in terms of a solid matter) this graft copolymer emulsion as an effective component is mixed with 5-30 pts.wt. water resistance agent (e.g., amino/formaldehyde resin), etc., to obtain the title overcoating agent. |
