I the process for oxychlorination of ethylene to form dichloroethanen, off-gases contg. chlorine and hydrocarbon were treated at 90-250≦̸C, 15-75 Psig in 50-1 -20000-1 hr sp. vel. for 2-50 sec to reduce chlorine and ethylene content. Thus, the off=gases contg.<=5000 vol. ppm C1 and ethene, were heated with Cl2 or FeCl3 -Al2O3 catalyst, forming additional dichloroethane and reducing the cl content to <2,200.
