Organic phosphate esters or their salts are stabilized by dissolving them in a solution containing a high concentration of 2-amino-2-methyl - 1 - propanol or 2 - amino - 2 - methyl-1,3-propanediol. The concentration of the alkaline buffers may vary from 1 to 7.2 molar and the pH is preferably maintained at from 9.7 to 10.5. Specified organic phosphates which may be stabilized are phenolphthalein monophosphate, thymolphthalein monophosphate, indoxyl phosphate, phenyl phosphate, p-nitrophenyl phosphate and a -naphthyl phosphate. The stabilized solutions may be used in the determination of alkali phosphatase enzyme in body fluids.ALSO:Substrate for phosphatase determination comprise solutions of organic phosphates or salts thereof stabilised by high concentrations of 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol or 2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propanediol.
