PURPOSE:To suppress oxidation and obtain the intermetallic compound magnet of high density and superior magnetic characteristics by adding metal hydrides to the alloy powder composed of the specific ratios of rare earth elements and transition elements including at least Co, and sintering and molding the powder. CONSTITUTION:A suitable amount of hydrides such as TiH2, ZrH2, CaH2 and SmH2 is mixed in the fine powder of the alloy RMz (z=6.8-9) composed of 2:17 in the ratio between the same and the alloy M of R selected from one or two or more kinds of rare earth elements such as Sm, Ce and transition metals such as Fe, Cu composed primarily of Co. The mixed powder is then molded and sintered, whereby the compact intermetallic compound magnet of less component composition deviations is obtained. Since the hydrides are mixed, the oxidation of the magnetic material is suppressed by releasing of decomposed hydrogen during sintering, whereby the powder particles are activated, thus as compared to the one not added with any hydride, magnetic energy product may be improved by 15-20% and the sintering temperature may be lowered as well. |
