1284275 Handles for plastics cups J O SORENSEN 15 Aug 1969 [16 Aug 1968 20 Nov 1968] 40807/69 Heading A4A A cup 1 made of plastics material has an integrally moulded elongated handle 2 formed with three supporting elements to allow the handle to be gripped between the thumb and a finger, two of these elements each being formed of a rib 5, the two ribs being spaced from each other at the handle end adjacent the cup and extending lengthwise away from the cup side wall, and the third element being positioned directly between the ribs. The ribs in plan view may be straight and parallel or converging or diverging outwardly, or may be curved, zig-zag or wave-like. In elevation the ribs may be parallel or inclined, converging upwardly or downwardly. The ribs may be joined directly together at their outer ends or joined thereat by a straight or curved rib-section. The third element may comprise solely a flat or curved plate, or such a plate having at least one downwardly projecting peg or additional rib or ribs, such as ribs 24, or the plate may be perforated. The third element rib or ribs may comprise two crossed ribs, parallel ribs which are parallel or transverse to the handle length, wavelike ribs, U-shaped ribs, or concentric annular rings. The handle length may be parallel to, or inclined upwardly or downwardly away from the cup base, or the handle may be curved, being upwardly or downwardly concave, along its length, and may taper in thickness, as seen in elevation, towards its free end. |
