The spring element consists of base ledges (7, 8, 9), of sprung transverse ledges (5, 6), distance pieces (13) and of bent leaf springs (16) positioned between the groups of transverse ledges and finally a tread covering. The tread covering is made from timber beams hardened against springing and there are rubber elastic foils or thermoplastic materials between the tread covering and the transverse ledges. The ledges taking the tread extend in threes symmetrical to the direction of running of the gymnasts and the flexible leaf springs are curved into an 'S' shape.
