Dimensionally stable anode is based on a core made by moulding from powder form 'valve metals' (esp. Ti, Ta and Nb) mixed with heat-setting or thermoplastic resin binders resistant to high temp. (viz. epoxy, phenolic, bisplenolic or polyfluoroethylene resins), the amt. of resin being 5-50 wt.% of the total. An electrocatalytic conducting coating constituting the anodic filter is bound to the core. Electrical connections may also be attached to the heat formed core. Mfr. of dimensionally stable anodes is complex and costly. The present method reduces the cost of mfr. and the amt. of metal needed to obtain specific properties as well as the wt. of the anode yet gives a prod. with reduced over-voltage, high density of anodic current and excellent chemical and mechanical resistance.
|
