The stator winding comprises a single coaxial coil (6). The core consists of two plates (9, 10), one on either side of the coil, which are slotted at the ends (k) to form poles. The teeth are arranged alternately in pairs, a main and auxiliary pole, from each plate. The tips of all the poles are subdivided to form two or more teeth. A plate type notched rotor core (4) operates in conjunction with the stator teeth. The auxiliary stator poles are fitted with short circuited copper windings (11, 13) to provide the necessary phase shift. The design is purported to give quicker and more certain starting by combining reaction and induction principles. The rotor tooth pitch may be equal to that of the stator or may have one or more teeth with a much larger pitch.
|
