Methods of manufacturing sulphate pulp from lignocellulose-contain-ing material are disclosed. The yields obtainable in such methods are increased by assuring that the time during which the lignocellulose-containing material is in contact with the cooking liquor at a temperature in the range of from about 80.degree.C. to 140.degree.C. is very short. To accomplish this, impregna-tion is substantially carried out at a temperature which lies outside of th/At range, and which is lower than the cooking temperature.
