The invention relates to the recording of a video signal on disc. To record a video signal on a disc (10), a carrier is frequency-modulated with the aid of the video signal, and marks (37) are formed on the disc which correspond for example to the positive half-cycles of the modulated signal. The marks (37) are formed with the aid of a laser beam for writing, and the difference between the reflecting properties of these marks and those of the intermediate regions (38) is used to read the recorded information, with the aid of a laser beam for reading.
